Update of Lio's Recovery There was a time I thought that Lio would never live to see this day.
August 12, 2008 I rode Lio for the first time! At the time of this photo Lio was barefoot on the RF and wearing the EDSS cuff orthopedic shoe on the LF. There were plenty of tears streaming down my face! To think that my horse rose from the "dead" and can carry my weight! I started working on Lio myself August 2008 following the Natural Balance hoofcare guidelines. Gene Ovnicek and his wonderful sons, Cody and Chad, gave me hope, confidence and wonderful instruction over the phone. In March '08 I went to the ELPO Level II Course in Penrose, CO, and became a Certified Natural Balance Barefoot Trimmer. I am thankful for the collective knowledge and research of the Equine Lameness Prevention Organization and proud to be part of this brotherhood. Lio is currently BAREFOOT and getting tougher every day! I have marveled to wittness Lio's progress. There IS a cure for laminitis! It takes time and requires that everything, from diet to orthopedics, goes perfectly. I am seeing so many positive results as a hoof care practitioner that I wish all the horses in the world could have their natural, bare hooves back.
